If you’ve recently upgraded your Lenovo Y560 Ideapad from Windows 7 to Windows 8, you will bump into problems trying to get the SlideNar/SlideNav installer to work. Launching Installation.exe simply gives an error stating that your Windows version is not supported.

Well… it actually does still work!

How to enable the Lenovo Y560 Slidebar on Windows 8:

  1. Download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package ( x86 or x64 )
  2. Download and install the Microsoft Application Verifier utility (http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=20028)
  3. Hit Win+R and run ‘appverif.exe’.
  4. Now goto File>Add Application, and select the Installation.exe from your SlideNav setup folder, such as D:driversLenovo_SlideNavInstallation.
  5. OK, now select Installation.exe from the list which you’ve just added, and under Tests, expand Compatibilty and tick the HighVersionLie box. Now right click HighVersionLie, select Properties and enter the following:
  • Major version: 6
  • **Minor version: 1

**

(If you are on Windows Server 2012, I’m pretty sure you should also set Product type as 1)

Sweet! Now you can run Installation.exe and this time it should actually work and install the SlideNav service. If not, try uninstalling and reinstalling. Feel free to uninstall Application Verifier. Finally, you can use SlideNav Media Keys http://sourceforge.net/projects/slidenavmedia/ again 😊
